The Children's Home In July of 2008, Digital Hands Co-Founder and CEO, Charlotte Baker enthusiastically accepted an invitation to serve on The Board of Directors at The Children’s Home, Inc. (CHI) a local 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization that provides residential treatment programs at its family support and resource center. CHI cares for severely neglected, abandoned, and abused children in the Central Florida region who have been removed from custody of their parents. The Home provides a safe, nurturing environment, professional rehabilitative therapy for the children and their families, and assists with adoption and foster care placement.
Charlotte’s vision for the Children’s Home has extended outward to ignite the entire Digital Hands Team. The team is leading the design, fundraising, and launch of a cutting-edge healing arts facility -- a physical building that we will build from the ground up with the help of other local businesses. The Imagination Center Project at the Children's Home is a source of inspiration for all who hear about it and as we move from the concept phase to bringing our CEO’s vision to reality, energy levels and spirits soar.
About The Imagination Center Project at The Children's Home: The Imagination center will be a first-of-it-kind research facility that uses computer-graphic and engineering technologies to help severely abused and neglected children to recover from trauma, gain essential computing skills, build self esteem, and inspire creative thought. The goal is to use technology to change the direction of shattered lives from hopeless to productive, replace thoughts of how to survive another day with those of unlimited possibilities for the future -- breaking the cycle of abuse.

The St. Anthony’s Triathlon
For the past three years, Digital Hands employees have participated in The St. Anthony’s Triathlon, a 1.5K Swim , 40K Bike Race, and 10K Run to benefit Athletes for a Cure (AFAC) or Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF).
St Anthony's has a long history of community support, and this year they teamed up with the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation (Athletes for a Cure) in 2008. The goal is to give every race participant a chance to race for a great cause in addition to pursuing their own fitness pursuits. This event is a great way to build team spirit outside of our office and we also enjoy the opportunity to spend time with some of our most loyal customers and colleagues. This year we had 4 teams and we were wowed by each other as we set some pretty impressive standards for next year's race!

The Guardian Ad Litem Program:
When a local family that lost their home, all their belongings, and even the family pets to a fire. Every employee at Digital Hands wanted to get involved and scouted for contributions that helped get the grandparents and the four small children that are in their care, back on their feet.
We were deeply moved when we received the following note of thanks from a Staff Advocate for The Guardian Ad Litem Program.
"Please let everyone in your office know what a difference they made for this family and how much it was appreciated. [The grandfather] had gotten to the point where he thought people just didn't care anymore. He said since the fire he looks at the world differently. He has gotten teary on more than one occasion trying to express to me the gratitude he feels toward people he has never even met, but have made a world of difference in his family's life. |
